THE FIRM
Yemi Adabonyan & Co (Chartered Accountants) was registered and set up initially in 1986 by Opeyemi A. Adabonyan FCA, the Managing Partner prior to his appointments by West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and later Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC now NNPCL). After his public service, he was engaged as a Partner in Lafenwa Osiberu & Co (Chartered Accountants) from 2018.
The Firm was re-registered in 2024.

THE MANAGING PARTNER – OPEYEMI A. ADABONYAN FCA MBA
Mr. Opeyemi Ayopo Adabonyan is a distinguished professional in the field of accounting and finance, recognized for his exceptional skills and dedication. As the Founder and Managing Partner of Yemi Adabonyan & Co. (Chartered Accountants), he has played a pivotal role in establishing the firm as a reputable and trusted name in the industry with over four decades of professional experience brought to the Firm.
Mr. Opeyemi A. Adabonyan is a Member and Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).
He holds both Master’s Degree in Business Administration and Postgraduate Diploma in Computer Science of the University of Benin, Edo State. He is also a Fellow and former Council member of the National Institute of Credit Administration.
Throughout his illustrious career, Mr. Opeyemi Adabonyan has demonstrated a profound commitment to excellence and innovation. He has attended numerous local and overseas seminars, workshops and trainings for Senior & Top Management Executives to sharpen his management skills. He was also trained in computer systems applications for accounting and auditing both locally and overseas, further enhancing his expertise and keeping him at the forefront of technological advancements in the accounting field.
Mr. Opeyemi Adabonyan’s professional journey is marked by significant contributions to the accounting industry. His experience spans various sectors, where he has consistently delivered outstanding results and driven the growth of the organizations he has been a part of.
Some of his notable achievements include successfully leading business transformation initiative for Government-owned organizations and institutions; leading statutory financial audit for public and private entities with significant investments portfolio; being a Team lead for the implementation of state-of-the-art SAP ERP Systems; as a Project Consultant for the upgrade of SAGE 300 ERP and providing strategic financial advisory services to a diverse range of clients.
In addition to his professional achievements, Mr. Opeyemi Adabonyan is actively involved in other social organizations. He is currently a member of the Nigerian-Canadian Business Association and an active member of the ICAN Ikorodu & District Society.
Mr. Opeyemi Adabonyan is known for his unwavering commitment to ethical standards and his dedication to providing top-notch services to his clients. Outside of his professional life, Mr. Opeyemi is passionate about giving back to the community. He is actively involved in various charitable initiatives and uses his expertise to mentor young professionals in the field of accounting and finance. His contributions to the community have made a lasting impact and reflect his belief in the importance of social responsibility.
CAREER PROGRESSION & MILESTONES
Mr Opeyemi A Adabonyan started his accounting career with his successful completion of the National Diploma in Accountancy with distiction at the Institute of Management and Technology, Enugu in June 1978. Thereafter, he proceeded to write the professional examinations of The Institute of Cost and Management Accountants, UK which he completed in November, 1981. This achievement provided him the exemption from writing the full professional examinations of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) except Nigerian Law and Taxation. He passed these ICAN examinations in 1982 and was certified as an Associate member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria in February, 1984. He was issued the ICAN Practicing Licence in February, 1987 later elected to become a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria in September, 1994.
Mr Opeyemi Adabonyan’s accounting working career and capacity building started with Cakasa Nigeria Limited which he joined in 1979 and rose to the position of an Accountant before his resignation in 1982. On the job, he displayed his costing and pricing skills in marketing imported products and spareparts for plant and machineries in Refineries and Petrochemical Installations.
Thereafter, he joined Lafenwa Osiberu & Co (Chartered Accountants) in 1983 as an audit trainee and the firm provided him basic training in business accounting and statutory financial audit considering the high profile of the firm’s clients in both public and private sectors of the economy.
In order to diversify his accounting expertise, he joined the public service and moved to the West African Examinations Council as a Senior Assistant Registrar (Finance) in 1988. At WAEC, he served in Lagos Headquarters and various zonal offices including Jos, Enugu and Benin. During the period he contributed to the improvements in the design of accounting forms and documents to capture primary data for ledger input.
His apetite for accounting knowledge and practice propelled his joining the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (now NNPCL) in 1993 as a Chief Accountant deployed to its subsidiary, Nigerian Gas Company Limited, Warri. His major contributions at the company was the migration of the manual accounting records to Sunsystems ledger accounting; Y2K systems and data migration; improvement in and timeliness of financial reporting; structured capital project management & reporting; and financial evaluation of GSPAs.
He was promoted first as a Deputy Manager and later elevated to full Manager before his redeployment to Pipelines and Products Marketing Company Limited (PPMC) another subsidiary of NNPCL in 2004.
As Manager Billings of the PPMC, he manages accounting and financial reporting of petroleum products purchases and sales.
